Life on the Farm

Mom's Caption for photo:
Becky & Lori (our "Rag Muffins") with two of our 5 goats. The goats are Nubians and were 4 weeks old when this photo was taken. The girls are out in the barn constantly during the spring - what with all the baby animals and excitement, it's much more fun to be out there than in the house.
May 1981.

Little Lori

Okay, so I think I'm completely darling in this pic!
But what I also love is the stuff in the background: the can of Bud, the vintage radio, the bananas on the coffe table, the lamp...so 1974.

Senior Letter

I wrote this on May 4, 1990. I can't actually remember the reasoning behind the letter, I'm guessing to see how far we'd come with goals and life in general. We left these with our teacher to be mailed in five years but to my surprise (and, honestly, I'd forgotten all about the letter) mine came in the mail a few weeks ago. Here are some excerpts...

...Right now many things are important to me: my goals, being happy and enjoying life. My family is important to me. My friends mean a lot to me, too.
...I see myself as an energetic, fun-loving, fairly intelligent young woman. I have goals for the future, lots of friends, ambition and some style.
...Secret fears: that I'll be a failure in the eyes of my parents. They always want me to be so much. I'm just afraid that I'll let them down and then they'll be disappointed. I guess that knowing that my parents are upset with me or disappointed in me would just crush my heart. I really don't have any other fears.
...I hope that in five years from today my life has changed for the better and that I'm very happy with the way things have turned out.

Hidden Treasures

I was out with a friend on Friday to Ruby Beach (beautiful place about 70 miles north of Hoquiam). It was one of those gorgeous spring days that almost feels like summer and gives you hope that the mold between your toes will actually go away! On the way back we spotted an old dumping ground and had to stop for a great photo op. I loved this ancient dresser and the knob...so much so that the knob now belongs to me.

Don't let opportunities pass you by - call the person you love, stop to see that metal goat, eat at the fancy restaurant, buy the expensive coffee - because we know that today we can, but we don't know what tomorrow brings......
